چکیده

ARTICLE HISTORY Received 18 January 2017 Accepted 30 January 2017 ABSTRACT The capacity of b-aminobutyric acid (BABA) to induce resistance in plants against biotic and abiotic stresses has been known for more than 50 y. In the beginning reports were mainly descriptive of the phenomenon, but it became clear with the discovery of BABA insensitive mutants in Arabidopsis that there was definitely a genetic basis underlying BABA-induced resistance. The study of these mutants, along with the use of regular hormone mutants, allowed establishing the defense pathways activated upon defense induction. To date it is clear that BABA potentiates the defense pathway more appropriate to counteract the upcoming stress situation, through a phenomenon termed priming. Interestingly, plants possess a receptor for BABA, but up to recently there was a general consensus on the fact that BABA was a xenobiotic molecule. The development of an accurate non-destructive assay for measuring aminobutyric acid isomers in planta and the finding of plant-produced BABA, thus seems to represent the missing link for the discovery of a novel plant hormone. Differences and similarities with some of the classical plant hormones are presented here.

Alleviation of oxidative stress induced by drought stress through priming by β-aminobutyric acid (BABA) in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) plants. Neda Mohamadi1,2, Amin Baghizadeh3*, Sara Saadatmand1, Zahra Asrar4

The objective of this study was to investigate the role of β-aminobutyric acid(BABA) (0, 300µM) in reduction of oxidative damages in leaves and roots of Brassica napus L. under drought stress (0, -0.2, -0.4 MPa). β-aminobutyric acid was investigated as an internal regulator hormone and its role in defense  mechanisms against biotic and abioticstresses. In this study, BABA pretreatment prevented...

A NEW METHOD FOR THE QUANTIFICATION OF 1 -(MALONYLAMINO)CYCLOPROPANE- 1 - CARBOXYLIC ACID IN WATER-STRESSED PLANT TISSUES

Since the discovery of MACC as a major metabolite of both endogenous and exogenously applied ACC, it has become evident that the formation of MACC from ACC can act to regulate ethylene production in certain tissues. Hence, it was suggested that MACC could serve as an indicator of water-stress history in plant tissues. The accurate quantification of MACC in plant tissues is essential for the...

P146: Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) and its Alterations in Stress

Gamma aminobutyrate (GABA) is a non-protein amino acid that is thought to play an important role in the modulation of the central response to stress. Mechanisms by which GABA may facilitate these responses to stress are metabolic and/or mechanical disruptions. Environmental stresses increase GABA accumulation through cytosolic acidification, induce an acidic pH-dependent activation of glutamate...

Cerebellar Giant Synaptosomes: a Model to Study Basal and Stimulated Release of [3H]gamma-Aminobutyric Acid

Background: Neurotransmitter release is an essential link in cell communication of the nervous system. Many investigations have focused on gamma amino butyric acid (GABA)-ergic neurotransmission, because it has been implicated in the pathophysiology of several central nervous system disorders. To bypass complications related to homo- and heterosynaptic modulation and to avoid indirect interpret...

Maintaining the postharvest nutritional quality of peach fruits by γ-Aminobutyric acid . Morteza Soleimani Aghdam1*, Farhang Razavi2 and Fatemeh Karamneghad3

Fresh peaches are highly perishable and they deteriorate quickly during low temperature storage which results in losses in nutritional quality. To prevent these adverse effects, peach fruits were treated by dipping with γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA; 2, 4 and 6 mM) immediately after harvest and then stored at 1 °C for 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. Peach fruits treated with GABA exhibited higher flesh fir...
